A janam kundli is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. It shows where the nine grahas (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu) were placed across the 12 rashis and 12 bhavas (houses). Each house represents an area of life — self, family, siblings, home, children, health, marriage, longevity, luck, career, gains and expenses. Reading how these combine is what tells your story.

Why is the exact time of birth so important?

The Lagna (rising sign) changes roughly every two hours, and the divisional charts such as Navamsa change even faster. A difference of 10–15 minutes can move planets into different houses and change the dasha dates. That is why two people born on the same day can have very different lives.

What is my nakshatra and why does it matter?

The zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras of 13°20′ each. The nakshatra of your Moon (janma nakshatra) decides your first naming letter, the starting point of your Vimshottari dasha, and most of the points in kundli matching. Two people with the same rashi but different nakshatras can behave quite differently.

Is an online free kundli accurate?

The calculation can be very accurate if the software uses a reliable ephemeris, the correct ayanamsa (Lahiri is standard in India) and the right historical time zone. Our free kundli is checked against the Swiss Ephemeris. But a chart is only data — the meaning comes from reading how houses, lords, yogas and dashas work together, which software cannot do for you.

Can my kundli be made if I don't know my birth time?

Yes, partly. Moon sign and nakshatra are usually correct even with an approximate time, so matching and rashifal work. For houses and dasha timing, the birth time can be estimated through birth time rectification, which uses dates of major life events such as marriage, children or job changes.

Why does my kundli differ between two websites?

Usually because of a different ayanamsa (Lahiri, Raman, KP), a wrong time zone for the birth year, or a Western (tropical) calculation instead of the Vedic (sidereal) one. The sidereal zodiac is currently about 24° behind the tropical one, which can shift your signs completely.

Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year cycle of planetary periods: Ketu 7 years, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17. The planet running your Mahadasha sets the main theme of those years, and the Antardasha (sub-period) decides when specific events happen. Many people notice life changing direction exactly when a dasha changes.

No. Saturn is the planet of discipline, hard work, justice and long-term results. For some Lagnas, such as Taurus, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius, Saturn is often among the most helpful planets. Many people get stable careers and property in Saturn periods. Whether Saturn helps or tests you is clear only from your chart.

Rahu and Ketu are not physical planets but the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path — the lunar nodes, which is also where eclipses happen. Rahu is linked with ambition, foreign lands, technology and sudden rise; Ketu with detachment, research and spirituality. Their 18-month transits and their dashas often bring unexpected turns.

What does a retrograde (vakri) planet mean?

A planet is retrograde when, seen from Earth, it appears to move backwards. In jyotish a retrograde planet is considered strong but its results can come with delays, rethinking or repetition. The Sun and Moon are never retrograde, while Rahu and Ketu always are.

Gochar is the current movement of planets through the zodiac, read against your birth chart. Slow planets matter most: Saturn stays about 2.5 years in a sign, Jupiter about a year and Rahu–Ketu about 18 months. Transits trigger what your dasha has promised; they rarely work alone.

Marriage timing is read from the 7th house and its lord, Venus (and Jupiter in a woman's chart), the Navamsa (D-9), and the dasha and transits running. When the dasha of a planet connected to the 7th house coincides with Jupiter's and Saturn's support, marriage usually happens. Your own window can only be found from your chart.

Will I have a love marriage or an arranged marriage?

A connection between the 5th house (romance) and the 7th house (marriage), or between their lords, is the classical sign of a love marriage. Venus, Rahu and the Moon also play a role. Many charts show both possibilities, and the dasha decides which one comes first.

Common chart reasons include Saturn's influence on the 7th house or Venus, an afflicted 7th lord, Manglik placement, Rahu–Ketu across the 1st and 7th houses, or simply a dasha that does not activate marriage yet. Often the delay is temporary and ends when the right dasha begins.

Traditionally, the sign on your 7th house, planets placed in or aspecting it, the 7th lord's position and the Navamsa describe the partner's nature, profession and even the direction they may come from. It is one of the most interesting parts of a reading.

How many gunas should match for marriage?

Out of 36 gunas in Ashtakoot milan, 18 or more is traditionally acceptable. But the score alone is not enough: Nadi and Bhakoot dosha, Manglik status and the strength of both 7th houses matter more. A 28-guna match can still have a serious issue, and a 20-guna match can be very workable.

What is Manglik dosha and is it really dangerous?

A chart is called Manglik when Mars is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house (some traditions include the 2nd). Classical texts list many cancellations, such as both partners being Manglik or Mars in its own sign, so a large share of Manglik charts are mild or cancelled after a full check. It is not a reason for fear without a proper reading.

Astrologers look at the 2nd house (the 8th from the 7th), the 9th and 11th houses and the Navamsa for indications related to a second marriage. These are sensitive readings and should always be done on the full chart, not from a single rule.

The 10th house, its lord, planets placed there and the Dashamsha (D-10) chart point to suitable fields — for example Mercury for commerce and communication, Mars for engineering, police or defence, Jupiter for teaching, law or finance, Venus for arts and design. The strongest combination in your chart is usually your natural direction.

A strong 7th house (trade), an active 3rd house (initiative) and a well-placed Mercury favour business; a strong 6th house often favours service. Many charts suit a job first and a business later. The answer also changes with the dasha you are running.

Foreign settlement is read from the 12th house (living away from the birthplace), the 9th house (long journeys) and the 4th house (homeland), along with Rahu. A strong 12th-house link with a weaker 4th house often shows long stays abroad. The timing of the move comes from the dasha.

Sade Sati is the roughly 7.5-year period when Saturn transits the sign before your Moon sign, the Moon sign itself and the sign after it. With Saturn in sidereal Pisces in 2026, it is running for Aquarius (last phase), Pisces (peak) and Aries (first phase) Moon signs. It is not automatically bad — for some charts it brings career stability.

Dhaiya is the 2.5-year transit of Saturn over the 4th or 8th sign from your Moon sign. In 2026 it applies to Sagittarius (4th) and Leo (8th) Moon signs. Its effect depends heavily on your Lagna and dasha.

What is Kaal Sarp dosh and is it real?

Kaal Sarp dosh is said to form when all seven planets lie between Rahu and Ketu. It is not described in the major classical texts like Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and became popular later, so many astrologers give it less weight than the rest of the chart. Whether it matters in your case needs a full reading.

Pitru dosha is traditionally linked with ancestral karma and is read from the Sun, the 9th house and its lord, and their connection with Rahu, Ketu or Saturn. Different traditions define it differently, so it should be confirmed carefully before anyone draws conclusions.

What is Grahan dosha?

Grahan (eclipse) dosha is said to form when the Sun or Moon is joined by Rahu or Ketu in the birth chart. It is associated with confusion or emotional ups and downs in the areas of the house involved, but its strength varies a lot with sign, degrees and aspects.

Does a dosha mean something bad will definitely happen?

No. A dosha is one factor in a chart of many. It can be cancelled, softened by benefic planets, or active only in certain dashas. Fear-based predictions from a single dosha are one of the most common mistakes people encounter.

What is a tithi?

A tithi is a lunar day: every 12° increase in the angle between the Moon and the Sun is one tithi, so a lunar month has 30 tithis — 15 in Shukla paksha and 15 in Krishna paksha. A tithi can start at any time of day, which is why festival dates sometimes surprise people.

What is Rahu Kaal?

Rahu Kaal is a period of about 1.5 hours each day — one-eighth of daytime — traditionally avoided for starting new work. Its position depends on the weekday and on your city's sunrise and sunset, so it is different in Agra, Patna and London.

Why is a shubh muhurat important?

A muhurat is chosen so that tithi, nakshatra, weekday, yoga and the rising sign all support the activity — a wedding, griha pravesh, business opening or vehicle purchase. A general panchang muhurat is a good start, but the best one also suits the birth charts of the people involved.

Sunrise, sunset and the local clock time of each tithi and nakshatra change depend on longitude and latitude. For NRIs the difference is even bigger because of time zones. Always check the panchang for your own city.

What is Abhijit muhurat?

Abhijit is the muhurat around local midday, about 48 minutes long, traditionally considered auspicious for most work when no other muhurat is available. Like everything in the panchang, its clock time changes with your city.

Mulank is the sum of your birth date reduced to one digit (born on the 23rd: 2+3 = 5). Bhagyank is the sum of the full date of birth, linked with your life path. Each number is associated with a planet, which is why numerology works well together with your kundli.

Not by rashi alone. In jyotish a gemstone strengthens its planet, so it suits only planets that are favourable for your Lagna. The same stone that helps one person can strengthen an unfavourable planet for another. This is why gemstone advice always needs the full chart.

How accurate is astrology?

Jyotish is a traditional system studied in India for centuries and taught in some Indian universities, though modern science does not regard astrology as proven. Its usefulness depends on accurate birth data, correct calculation and an honest, experienced reading. We present it as guidance about tendencies and timing, not as a guarantee.
